Every day in America, an average of 22 veterans lose their lives to suicide. This number is more than a statistic—it represents brothers, sisters, parents, and friends who once served something greater than themselves, only to return home and face battles few can see.
OPERATION <22 was created to confront that reality head-on. Its mission is clear and uncompromising: reduce the number of veteran deaths to fewer than 22 per day—and ultimately, to zero.
The transition from military to civilian life is complex. Many veterans face challenges including PTSD, depression, loss of identity, and difficulty reintegrating into everyday society. Traditional systems, while valuable, often fall short in providing the consistent, personal, and community-driven support veterans need.
OPERATION <22 is not just about awareness—it is about direct intervention, connection, and accountability. It recognizes that real change happens when veterans are supported by people who understand their experiences firsthand.
At the center of OPERATION <22 is TVAG | The Veterans Advocacy Group, a veteran-directed nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health outcomes for those who served.
TVAG operates on a simple but powerful principle:
Veterans helping veterans.
This peer-driven approach fosters trust, relatability, and authenticity—elements that are often missing in traditional support systems.
One of TVAG’s most impactful initiatives is the Upstate Veterans House—a safe, supportive environment where veterans can begin rebuilding their lives.
This is not just a shelter. It is a structured, purpose-driven space where veterans can:
The Upstate Veterans House serves as a critical foundation for long-term recovery and reintegration.
TVAG’s program is aligned with a Department of Veterans Affairs–approved mentoring model, ensuring that participants receive guidance that meets established standards for effectiveness and care.
Through this mentorship program, veterans:
This structured yet personal approach bridges the gap between clinical care and real-world application.
OPERATION <22 is not confined to a single location or initiative. It is a growing movement aimed at reshaping how veteran mental health is addressed across communities.
By combining:
TVAG is actively working to reduce isolation—the leading contributor to veteran suicide—and replace it with connection, purpose, and belonging.
Lowering the number of veteran deaths to fewer than 22 per day is an ambitious goal—but it is achievable through sustained effort, community involvement, and a commitment to doing things differently.
OPERATION <22 stands as a call to action:
Because behind every number is a life worth saving.
Real change requires participation. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness, everyone has a role to play.
OPERATION <22 is more than a campaign—it is a commitment to ensuring that no veteran fights alone.
Together, we can change the number.
Together, we can save lives.
